The year 4’s went to Wells Cathedral for a special leavers day.

Before they went they had to find out all about pilgrims and pilgrimages in preparation for their pilgrimage to the Cathedral. They found out that shells are a symbol of pilgrimages. They wrote individual prayers on the theme of ‘giving thanks for the past and looking forward to the future’ and these were combined to make a ‘Berkley prayer’. This was chosen to be read at the closing ceremony which Mary representing the school read beautifully. The children prepared a pilgrim map of their journey from Berkley to Wells Cathedral showing land marks on the way, which is on display at the Cathedral.

On the day Cody presented the school logo at the opening service.  Lots of activities were carried out including making a decoupage shell necklace, a shell memory box, watching and taking part in a mime session on journeys and a tour around the Cathedral dressed as pilgrims from the pastwhere they found out some interesting facts about the building and its visitors over the years. At the closing ceremony Tiffany and Finley carried our school banner and Aimee and Christopher collected the school lighted candle during the closing worship.

All the children had a memorable day.
