Pirate Wow Day

Pirate Wow Day

The amazing Mrs Langton and Owls class turned our school field into a giant treasure map. To end our ‘Land Ahoy’ topic the year 4’s organised a ‘Wow’ day for the other children across the school.  Their brief was that the field would be marked out as a grid representing a map and they needed, in small groups, to design a game that could be carried out within a section of the grid. The game needed to be created with resources which could be rounded up at school and incorporate a way in which the participants could collect eggs that at the end would be exchanged for treasure. Working in their groups they designed, planned and createdthe resources for their games. On the day the field was marked up and the games constructed. There were games where ships were knocked over with cannon ball bean bags, pirates had to walk the plank and fish using rods with magnets, a large pirate had rotten egg bean bags thrown at him, pirates had to swim through fish without getting trapped, balance on the side of the ship and reach out for fish, walk along the ramp of a pirate ship and slide down under the deck, collecting eggs on the way.  Each class in groups had to read the coordinates for each game on a large map to work out which activity they visited next. At the end the eggs were counted and exchanged for treasure stored in a treasure chest also constructed by the year 4 children. Great fun was had by all!

Please take the time to look at all the photographs (there are lots ) and both videos.
