Hauser and Wirth Art Gallery, Bruton
Owls had an amazing day visiting Hauser and Wirth Art Gallery! Our adventure began by travelling to Bruton by train and then walking to the gallery. Eventually we arrived and looked at the work of two artists, Niki de Phalle and Jean Tinguely. Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely were pioneering artists who worked in collaboration with each other. Tinguely became known for his moving sculptures, termed ‘Métamatics,’ which were mechanical constructions. Niki de Saint Phalle gained widespread recognition for her ‘Nanas’ which were large-scale, brightly colored sculptures of female figures that celebrate femininity. The children looked at the artwork and created line drawings of both the ‘Nanas’ and Tinguely’s mechanical sculptures. The children loved the artwork, especially the glass mosaic skull and the gold bed. Later that afternoon, Owls had fun making spin pictures on a record deck and creating drawings using an electric toothbrush, masking tape and felt-tips! At the end of the day, Owls braved the wet weather, walked back to the station and returned home again by train. It was brilliant!
