Introduction to British Values at Berkley School

At Berkley School, British Values are not taught as standalone concepts but are woven naturally into everything we do. Through our nurturing ethos, rich curriculum, and strong sense of community, children learn about democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance in meaningful, age‑appropriate ways. These values shape our expectations, guide our relationships, and help our pupils grow into confident, respectful and responsible young citizens. Our British Values statement explains how these principles are embedded across school life and how we support every child to understand their role in modern Britain.

Our wonderful Parents of FBS organised a fantastic Movie Night for the children. In true Berkley style, they linked the event to the British Value of democracy by giving every child the chance to vote for the film they most wanted to watch.

The children loved having their say, and the winning movie was chosen fairly based on their votes. It was a great example of how we help pupils understand democracy in a fun, meaningful way—showing that everyone’s voice matters.
